Our May NSA-Las Vegas Chapter event was successfully hybrid with virtual and in-person attendees actively engaged. Our fearless leader, Guy Burns, was out of town. Jim Root stepped up and ran a great meeting. We also brought in a professional sound engineer, Rob Depew, to assist with improving the quality of our events. Our goal is to continuously improve. Thank you everyone who filled out our post event survey. The May event was one of the highest rated events of the year. The May Event Warm Up – Member ShowcaseDr. Katrina Burris talked about “How to Strategically Create Content to Reinforce Your Brand with MINIMUM Effort.”
Dr. Katrina gave us a crash course on maximizing social media to monetize more of what we each do. She shared her formula for marketing success and how to create a one-year plan with monthly tangible goals.
The Main Event – “How to Build a Sustainable, Profitable, and Fulfilling Business as a Speaker” with Barry Banther
Barry Banther, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), CMC (Certified Management Consultant) and Chairman of the Board of NSA (National) shared the core techniques and practical tips he used to build a successful speaking and consulting business. Barry revealed three core competency questions he asks to engage every prospect in conversation to easily find if there is a fit for his services:
- How do you mean that?
- Can you give me an example of that?
- Why is that important (or valuable)?
These are powerful questions that you can use to be concise and client centric.
Barry gave us practical tips for what he calls corporate competency in managing our speaking business with pricing, profitability, planning, and process. Plus, how he markets his network to stay in front of them all the time. Barry shared his Client Channel Grid that he uses to maximize the engagement possibilities with every client.
We each shared what we are currently doing and brainstormed new engagement ideas to add to our marketing toolbox and Client Channel Grid. Barry gave us a phrase you can use when a prospect asks questions about fit before you have a meaningful discussion about their needs and pain points. It usually sounds like this: “Can you help me/us?” Barry will say: “I can’t with integrity answer that. Yet if I can spend some time with you, we can uncover if there is alignment and a good fit.”
With Dr. Katrina and Barry’s presentations, we gained many takeaways to help us build a solid strategy for prospecting, marketing, and business sustainability.
We look forward to seeing you at our Year-end Celebration on Saturday, June 12. It is an evening event that will include comedy, cocktails, celebration, and recognition. Bring a plus 1 and socialize with fellow members and those who support them behind the scenes. This event will be in-person only. JOIN US to mingle, share, and network among industry peers.
