The meeting started yet again with positive vibes of success! We heard lots of “High Fives” of member achievements since our last Chapter gathering. We applaud everyone for their accomplishments. This is how we support and encourage each other as members.
Our Past President from 12 years ago, Mack Jackson, a Cybersecurity expert, educated us on the next pandemic coming to the world – cybercrime! Wow, the stories he told us! We learned how hackers get into our phones, cars, houses, and computers with just a few keystrokes. Hackers use social engineering to get data from other humans. Mack talked about how hackers can get our fingerprints from our selfie pictures! Incredible how easy it is for them to get our data. Yep, got me really thinking more seriously about security! He says small businesses are ‘low hanging fruit for hackers because we don’t always invest in security – and they know it.

Ed Riggsbee flew to give us his expertise on Associations. Ed is the definitive authority for selling to Associations. He meets with Association Executive Directors weekly and knows their challenges and criteria for hiring speakers. Ed gave us Eight Trends in the Association industry to help us prioritize where to focus our time. He conducted several hot seats with members to give specific tips based on their messaging and goals. Ed also gave us tips on how he offers value through articles and spends time on relationship-building to get his gigs.
According to Ed, Associations follow this mantra: “People will pay more to solve their pains than make more money.”
Plus, he gave our chapter one of his books. The ROI of Membership. I am already reading it and taking notes to bring back to the Board of Directors! If you want to borrow it, let me know.
