We kicked off the year learning about new trends in the publishing industry so we can elevate our visibility and credibility as experts in our own arenas. Have you heard of “Hybrid Publishing”? This Chapter event was an education on something new in the publishing world.
Mike Rayburn, CSP, kicked us off with the CSP Accelerator on the power of Mastermind Groups. He talked about the benefits, logistics, and potential agenda topics. And Mike challenged us to find (or start) a Mastermind Group of our own. Mike told us about the numerous successes from his own Mastermind Groups over the years including powerful connections, creative brainstorming on challenges and opportunities alike, accountability and fabulous friendships that have enlightened his life. Will you find (or start) a Mastermind Group yourself now?
Millie Brown, Founder of Brown Books Publishing Group, was to be our main speaker, but she stayed home ill… we wish her a quick recovery. Tom Reale, President & COO of Brown Books Publishing Group, flew in from Dallas Texas to share Millie’s message on new trends and concepts in the publishing world. After giving us the backstory on Millie’s journey and entrance into the publishing world, Tom told us about the brillance of inventing “Hybrid Publishing” in 2018. We got the statistics, advantages, and considerations. Plus, how this kind of publishing is thriving during the pandemic while thousands of bookstores closed their doors. Amazon tools and book sales trends were reviewed so we can empower ourselves.
Tom gave us the rundown on what Brown Books Publishing Groups looks for in manuscript submissions. The do’s and don’ts. The financial considerations including advances and royalties. And how they handle marketing and the most important aspect of their work – us – the author. Brown Books Publishing Group is focused on the author relationship. Wow, what a concept. As an author we are not a number to them. We are real people! Really informative presentation for those wanting to publish to gain visibility and credibility and have yet another avenue of real revenue.
This was the first time I attended our Chapter events virtually since I was traveling. The virtual experience is quite different from the in-person experience. It’s better than not attending – we still get the content. However, the interactions, networking, and comradery was definitely missing. If you have any feedback, please let us know your experience and any improvement ideas in the Survey sent after each meeting. We want to improve our events wherever possible.
If you have any questions about membership, reach out to me so I can assist.
Until our next Chapter Event, have a productive and enjoyable month.
