If you want more bookings and higher speaking fees one of your most important tools is your speaking demo reels!
Do you need one? Or maybe time for an upgrade?
We sat down with some of our Las Vegas NSA Rockstars who are getting book and asked them what really matters. This week we sat down with our own Darren LaCroix, CSP and World Champion Speaker. Here is his demo videos and what he says matters.
WHAT ARE THE CRITICAL “MUST HAVES” DEMO REEL?
- Clear Concise Message
- Audience reactions shots
- Well edited to flow…and if possible “elicit emotion”
- Call to action at the end. (Ask for the sale!)
WHAT ARE THE CRITICAL “MUST AVOIDS” DEMO REEL?
- Bad audio
- Lack of audience take aways
- Boring
WHY IS A DEMO REEL IMPORTANT?
It is one of your most important marketing tools. Event planner and speaker bureaus usually expect them. It is more powerful than “copy” to explain what you do and how you do it. Decision makers want to see you in action. Have it on your home website home page as well as social media home pages if possible. You may also have a full program video available upon request. Then relentlessly get it in front of planners!
ADVICE FOR EMERGING SPEAKERS about their first demo video?
Start where you are with what you have. The cool thing is video quality is easier, faster and higher quality than the old days when I started. We used to have to physically mail demo videos which was not efficient and costly. The down side is it is easier for everyone so it is essential. If you do not have live footage yet, so an interview style to help get the point across of your value and how you serve audiences. You will see some of mine have that as well. Also, start collecting video testimonials whenever you can! You will not use them all, but get as many as possible.
- What does this insight mean to you?
- What can you do today?
- Start were you are with what you have and then constantly and consistently improve…your career counts on it!
