What is Last Story Standing™

Last Story Standing™ is NSA’s signature storytelling competition—designed to push speakers to craft stories with purpose, impact, and compelling delivery. Our chapter-level event gives you a chance to compete locally, sharpen your skills, and potentially advance to the Regional or National stages.

Why You Should Compete

• Improve your storytelling craft (structure, emotional pull, clarity)
• Connect with fellow speakers and get feedback
• Gain performance experience in front of a live audience
• Be championed and recognized within your speaking community
• Potentially move on to Regional / National competition and receive coaching from industry experts

You Will Be Judged on Three Criteria:

1. Purpose- The story's ability to reveal, and communicate a clear lesson, point, or action step that an audience member could leverage.

2. Impact- How well the story was crafted and structured to entertain, educate, and motivate.

3. Delivery- The teller's ability to deliver the story and employ professional techniques including eye contact, vocal tone, and body language.

Eligibility

• All storytellers must be a member of NSA Las Vegas. (Not a member? Click HERE to join.)
• Stories must be original and align with NSA’s professional conduct standards
• All participants must follow rules & deadlines set by NSA Las Vegas and NSA National
• Ineligible: past winners of the Chapter Championship and CPAE-level speakers

 

What Happens After You Win at the Chapter Level

Our chapter winner will receive coaching from seasoned speakers who will help them prepare for the Regional Contest. Regional contestants will then compete on stage at the NSA national conference, Influence.

 

Here’s What You Need to Know

Our 2026 Chapter Contest will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Registration to attend the competition event in March will open Feb 14, 2026.

Registration to compete as a contestant is open NOW.

• Entry Fee: $50 (Click link at the bottom of the page to register to compete as a contestant and pay the registration fee.)
• Deadline to Submit Story/Sign Up: March 1, 2026
• Length: 5 minutes (Anything longer will get you disqualified.)

We will kick off the season with a special presentation from Jeff Rogers, the first winner of the Last Story Standing Competition. He will be sharing tips on how to use humor and improv for high-stakes speaking.

Not Competing?

Even if you won't be competing in our chapter's Last Story Standing Competition, you will still want to attend our competition event on March 14, 2026! Come cheer on your fellow chapter members, pick up storytelling tips and tricks from our expert judges, and participate in audience voting (if we need a tie breaker) as we crown this year’s winner. You’ll leave inspired, entertained, and equipped with new insights to strengthen your own stories.
