March Event Recap

Welcome to the recap of a very informative NSA-Las Vegas Chapter event. Marissa, our newest member, was welcomed. She joined after attending just one meeting. Marissa knew she was in the right place. Every month we are privileged to support our members and guest with our high fives. It’s a great way to celebrate our wins and get to know our fellow members and guests.

We started the day off celebrating the upcoming (and now past) Professional Speakers Celebration Day, shared by Pi Day. There was no better reason to indulge in some Moon Pies. If you missed it, you could watch the video honoring our outstanding members on this first annual celebration day. Click on the GIF below to watch the video.

Our first speaker, Ed Tate (CSP), took us through some training tips with his talk, Behind The Curtain Training Tips For Speakers. When you watch the video in our Success Now Vault, you will see that Ed demonstrated each tip as he engaged the audience. First, Ed told us that you must build rapport with your audience before starting your training. Next, he reminded us of Darron LaCroix’s term “Before Rapport.” Finally, Ed shared the four tensions every speaker must recognize and work through.

  1. Speaker vs. Audience
  2. Student vs. Student
  3. Speaker vs. Presentation and Materials
  4. Audience vs. Environment.

So, step one is to break down the tension. Step two is to build in Think, Pair, and Share time. Ask a good question. Get the audience to talk to one another and then give them time to share with the larger group. It keeps people involved and helps to break down the Student vs. Student tension. Then, Ed shared a “3D” Format for basic course design, which can streamline that process. He finished by saying that, as a trainer, our goal is not to be perfect. “Don’t be special; be personal” Students want to walk away feeling better about themselves. Thanks, Ed!

Our featured speaker, Sam Richter, spoke about “Every Sales ‘Yes’ Begins With A Know.”

Sam’s first “know” was to learn about your prospects. Suppose you have a prospect. Learn as much about them as you can. Also, learn from them. Be interested in them, their business, likes, and dislikes. It gives you permission to ask better questions, which helps you to know them that much more.

Sam then took us through “Search University” we started with kindergarten, which enabled us to focus our google searches so that we get less of what we didn’t want and a more focused and smaller set of data to research. Next, he said what so many successful people say: “the way we will grow our business is to make those calls!” “It’s a percentage game. And then sell our prospects.” Finally, he gave us intel secrets for working our prospect lists.

Sam said, “it is crucial to know the right prospects.” Find out who you like working with the best. Do you prefer specific industries? Do companies in those industries like you as a speaker? If so, do research through industry associations and particular companies. Make sure you are speaking to the right people.; the decision-makers have the power to say yes. And work your prospects at the right time when they announce a new executive, a drop in sales, or a merger. Times of change often bring a need for training to the forefront.

Sam spent valuable time reviewing various searches worth watching in the Success Now Vault. Ed brought value with his excellent knowledge and humor. And Angelo with Tres Cazuelas never ceases to amaze us with the delicious lunch he provides us each month.

We gather to help Elevate and Accelerate our businesses! As a member, if you missed our event or want to rewatch it, you can access the recording in our Success Now Vault. https://nsalasvegas.com/success-now/

Have a happy, healthy, and fruitful month,

Trish Kruse
